Key Principles

The development has been designed to include some of the key local transport considerations:

  • Safeguarding the Carterton - Witney - Oxford Rail Corridor
  • Improved access to the A40
  • Public transport improvements, including local / regional services and mobility (transport) hubs
  • Future-proofing the masterplan with the ability to adapt to future lifestyle changes
  • Co-locating amenities to make it easier for residents to walk and cycle
  • Prioritising public transport at key junctions
  • Segregated cycleways to allow safer and quicker cycle trips
  • Potential for electric bus charging points to support low carbon travel
  • Undertake detailed highway modelling with Oxfordshire County Council to define mitigation measures

Sustainable Transport Strategy

The development will provide safe walking and cycling links to support short, local journeys without a car.

A continuous cycle route to Carterton would link the site's paths to the shared-use path on Monahan Way. Cycle routes to Witney are being considered by the council.

Bus services would run along the spine road with regular stops. Existing services, including S1 (Carterton-Oxford) and S2 (Cheltenham–Oxford via Burford and Witney), are expected to serve the site.

The West Oxfordshire Local Plan proposes a potential future rail link between Carterton and Oxford. The proposal accommodates this by safeguarding land for the preferred route option (shown in green).

A40 Connection

A new roundabout is proposed to link the spine road with the A40 north of the site. This will provide access to the wider road network.

Monahan Way Junction

Monahan Way would be realigned to prioritise the new connection to the A40 via the development, discouraging traffic from passing through Brize Norton.
